That almost certainly means the head has been changed to a later one, which
probably also explains the carbs & manifolds.

Heads were not normally serialized.

That seems very odd to me. Does the starter still mount to the block ? What
fills the gap between the starter and the bellhousing ? Is it possible the
block casting is just broken ? (I have one like that.)
