Hey all, A few of you may recognize my name. I am a long time digest
reader, but seldom post. I have a 1965 TR4A that I have had for over 25
years. John Lestina is a good friend and the previous owner of the car.
As a service I thought I would offer these tools to the list. Pictures are
available. I would be glad to loan them out on a deposit and shipping
charge only basis. John devised this tool, and he and I used it
successfully. Here is his description.

Here's a write up of the differential dummy bearings description. I might
suggest running this by Randall Young or some of the other "critical
experts" before posting it to the general TR net. They may mail me about
clarifications etc.

We have made some dummy (trial and set up) bearings for aligning the pinion
and crown gears of the Triumph TR4 IRS differential. These will be used to
find which shims are needed to provide the correct mesh pattern on their
teeth. They are made from tool steel and precision machined to duplicate
the dimensions of the factory spec bearings for the crown cage bearings and
the pinion big bearing. They have a fine slip fit on both the pinion
inner shaft and its outer race boss. The crown gear assembly units have a
precision slip fit on the cage shafts and a slip fit into the differential
housing outer bearing bosses.

This will allow you to easily knock apart and change shims on this critical
adjustment when checking tooth mesh patterns with machinist blueing. Once
the proper shim assortment is accertained, you can then reasemble the unit
with the "real" bearings".
