Hi Mark,
I've been away for a week so it's a late response.
With respect to your post and to the judging guidelines and "Authorities" I
offer that my 1966 TR4A CTC 69150L which I purchased in 1969 with very low
mileage (12,000 or 18,000 I can't remember which), also had rubber mats
installed when I replaced them with a new full carpet set from TRF in about
1984. The snaps are still in place on the original floors and I use them to
position the now worn out carpet set.
I do believe that the official spare parts books show part numbers for
carpets too and I can check that when I return home. Perhaps someone else
will be able to comment.

web site (also on my own web site www.macysgarage.com) I'll address the
TR4/4A carpets which were not mentioned in my previous tech article.
According to the TRA TR4/4A Judging Standards and Restoration Guidelines
(available from Lou Metelko), TR4's had charcoal gray NYLON loop carpet and
rubber mats in the footwells. For TR4A's, the rubber footwell mat was
replaced with a padded carpet piece, and the carpet material was now a more
plush Wilton wool in black, red, or midnight blue to match the interior trim
color. I don't know whether Bruce Clough was influenced by TRF advertising
material when this guideline was written, but in the absence of any more
definitive information this is the accepted standard. Hope this helps.
