Chris-
I am running the Gunst T/O bearing in my TR6. I have 150 miles on it.
Here is my 2 cents worth.....
I tried TRF's magic clutch, 10K miles and a major groove in the pressure
plate fingers from the monster Toyota T/O bearing developed. It worked fine
but I question the longevity of the system. (I am not hard on clutches,
driven standards my whole life without having to change one from abuse.)
The Gunst is smaller and lighter, is also non-greasable (read sealed
bearing). It developed a high pitched shrill that would curl your hair at
idle in neutral. I called my supplier and they were aware of a few cases of
this. I did what they recommended, I added a light spring the clutch fork
bracket. The spring keeps the Gunst bearing in contact with the pressure
plate with light pressure. The system was designed to have the bearing in
constant contact with the pressure plate. The squeal is now gone, the clutch
works fine.
In the three systems I have tried, none of them give a light clutch
pedal or feel. I personally have never had a problem with the _heavy_ clutch
of a TR that some owners complain about. To me, a heavy clutch is normal for
an old British sports car.
If the Gunst doesn't work out, I'll go back to a stock set-up. Never had
a problem with the original T/O bearing, just thought there was something
better out there. Time will tell. YMMV
