Richard,
I had the dicken's own time too with mine. What might be missing is the
benefit of impact while you turn the screwdriver. Either buy an impact
screwdriver (about $30 at Sears), or do what I did, which is to hold the
screwdriver in the slot with my under arm, twist the screwdriver with my
hand, and beat the screwdriver with a hammer with my other hand.
It worked, but I am decidedly buying an impact screwdriver now.
Oh, and try the hot/cold, hot/cold thing, using heat, then splash of cold
water, until the combination of all things helps.
