just to add to the busted bolt talk. i have recently found that if you have any part of the stud left projecting out, then the very best tool is the plumbers wrench. the big red one. i have tried the easy out, the sears reverse socket bite things. they all pale in comparison. then again if the stud is broken off inside the hole then its all down to what's been said already.
