If someone has previously rounded off the plug with a Cresent wrench you
may have to file the burrs before the socket will fit.

Also, if the plug is a 1/2 inch square you can take a 1/2 inch drive socket
and put it on backwards.  Use a 9/16 socket and a 3/8 coupler nut (or 7/16
check the size) and put a wregular wrench on that.
