IMO, keep your VIN plate the same! This is in order that the next owner can
know what is original, which is only fair and honest to him. When you sell it,
should it ever come to that, tell him that you have changed the colours to
your liking! You won't lose points if you show it and no old colour shows.
My wife's 67' XKE Jag 2+2 is now a correct '67 colour, i.e. 'metallic gun
metal gray #2'. It was originally 'canary yellow'! No matter how many times
it
has been repainted, touched up, etc., there is always a smigin of that damn
yellow coming to the surface, somewhere, sometime, someplace! So the next
owner
will know that you have misrepresented things.
IMO it is your car. You may have it the colour you want! The original
colour may have been different, but so what? But if you replace that plate,
please keep it just exactly, as close as you can, to the way it was originally!
Don't even consider faking it.
