When I had my 64 TR4 rims powdercoated, my powdercoater had two colors that
were close. Rally Silver or Aluminum. I chose the rally silver based on
the samples he had in the shop. I am not real happy with the color. In the
bright sun, they look ok, but in other conditions, the color looks too gray.
Later I found a passage in one of the Triumph restoration books that says
the wheels should be painted an aluminum color. Given the colors that my
supplier offered, I would choose the bright silver aluminum color next time.
As a side note, the powdercoating has held up great over the last two years.
The wheels stay very clean. Hears a scary thought though, powder coating is
not brake fluid resistant. What happens when a wheel cylinder starts to
leak? I'll let you know if I find out first.
Good luck on your final choice.

Subject: Wheel colors
| Listers,
|
| I will be sand blasting my "original" steel wheels in preparation for
| painting them in a few days. I plan on powder coating them the silver/gray
| color that seems to be what they originally were painted, at least those
| that weren't body color.
|
| Can anyone tell me where I can start in choosing a good color to use. What
I
| would really like to tell the powder coat guy "coat these wheels '78
Pontiac
| Mountain Silver" or some such marketing inspired name! And have them come
| out just perfect!!
|
| I have heard that Argent Silver (available from Eastwood) is about right.
| But I am not sure if that color is right! Does anyone "really" know? The
| spray cans from Eastwood sold as "Wire Wheel Silver" are a little too
| metallic for my taste.
|
| Fred Thomas, PC Guru! Do you have any advice or input regarding this color
| issue??
|
| TIA,
