I have a 2000 Z28 that I regularly take to the track. I do not compete, just
go hang out and run the car on Test and Tune nights. It is fun and the Z is
nearly the fastest completely stock car made (except the Vette and a couple
exotics) so I like it. The TR3 would probably beat 3/4 of the Hondas and other
econo boxes that these guys are racing nowadays though.

You have to be pretty consistant at your launches and shifts to compete. It is
hard to turn the exact same time every try, especially with a stick. Automatic
is easier. I just installed a ton of suspension parts on the Z to get more
consistant launches(and go around a corner better than a truck). It takes a
lot of money to do it right. I spent over $1000 just on rear suspension parts
(and more on the front but that does not help you drive staight)and I bought
second hand lower end parts. I was going to compete, but the times and days
that they do the events are hard to get to with my schedule.

Now I am back to my true love with the Triumphs. I really only bought the Z as
a daily driver then got involved in the local clubs. I was relying on a TR7 to
get me to work an hour each way, and no a/c in Orlando Traffic. So I guess I
will stay involved in the F-body clubs and get more active again in the Triumph
clubs. Triumphs are much more fun
