My machinest friend, once taught me how to grind a drill bit.........has
saved me literally $100's ..........
You grind the bit for the material you are drilling.............high angle
for wood (like a pencil) low angle (like a Chinese rice farmers hat) for hard
material like SS or to go slow, like into a spot weld.......it's gotta be
wet........treadcutting oil, wd-40 or spit in a pinch..........the back side
of the slant is not needed, only the cutting edge.....the rest just
drags.......so touch off the back of the slant on the
grinder..............the process is much quicker than I can describe it to
you.......and quicker than you can read this............hopefully you can
find a good machinest to take the time to show
you..............hey!!.......give him a 5th or a case of beer........it will
be WELL worth it!!!
Now!!!......the only times I buy a new drill bit is for a different
size........forgot to sharpen it.......or so small it broke off to short to
resharpen...........Wish I had a scanner!!!!!!..........only thing I can find
is......." ^ "..........that would be for wood.......when you buy a new
bit......that's in between...........and then much flatter for SS or spot
welds
