Could it be that the generator can't put out enough juice to power the
halogens for a long period of time?  When you stop the car for 5 minutes the
battery naturally comes up enough?  I had this same sort of thing happen
when the electric fan came on automatically at idle. It would drain the
battery enough to stall from lack of juice to ignite the fuel. I ended up
installing a switch override.
