I think welding wheel studs is certainly serious overkill, even if the "brittle" theory is wrong. When I found a few loose studs on my rear wheel hub I glued them at the back with Araldite and have had no problem since. Might help! David Brister 1967 TR4A PS. Araldite is a two part glue (epoxy?) widely available on the eastern side of the Atlantic.
