When I removed my TR4 dash - it's been a while - I loosened everything
holding the facia in place and pulled it slowly out without removing it,
letting it hang im place with the guages holding it in. I then put masking
tape on the wires as I removed them from the guages, writing on the piece of
tape where each wire went. The screws and nuts went into many little plastic
bags marking their location, again with tape on the bag. It's not hard, but
you have to be painstakingly careful to remember - write it down on
everything - where to put everything back, and it always seems like there are
a lot more things to put back then you removed.
If it's any consolation I was 17 years old at the time and not very
experienced with cars, and I was able to remove my wooden dash, refinish it,
and put it back. My wipers no longer worked, but the dash looked great!
