There is an important difference between the solenoid on an A-type and the
solenoid on a J-type, the A-type has a "pull-in" coil that draws over 15
amps. There are contacts inside the solenoid that open when the plunger
seats, so only the holding coil is left in the circuit (otherwise the
solenoid will burn up in a matter of minutes). The isolator switches may
handle the pull-in current surge for awhile, but not very long. Besides, a
relay is a lot cheaper and easier to replace !
