My TR8 ROM says you have to disconnect the engine from the cradle, raise 
it(the engine) and support it from above, then disconnect the cradle from the 
car and lower it to remove the rack. (Not exactly removing the engine, but 
still a major operation)
Does your manual say something else ?
or are you saying that raising the engine is not necessary ?
Let me say i've never done it, so i'm just asking for info here.
After all, the same manual tells me to access my rear shock mounts thru
the trunk and never mentions thats FHC only - had to figure out on my own 
that  on the convertible rear shocks are accessed thru the interior.
