Some of the 10" brakes (don't recall when offhand) had adjustments for shoe
height from the backing plate. If yours are that type, you might check that
the shoe surfaces are parallel to the drum. This can also be the source of
mysterious clunk when you release the brakes.
Otherwise, try backing off the brake adjustment one click. The rear shoes
are not supposed to touch the drums at all with the brakes released, unlike
the front pads which are allowed to drag very lightly (and hence may squeal
with your foot off the brakes).

I had exactly this symptom, problem turned out to be that the throttle shaft
bushes were worn so bad that the throttle plates would drag on the carb
throats and hold them slightly open. Readjustment of the throttle plates so
they would close with the shafts in the worn position helped, but the real
cure was to rebush the carb bodies.
