Larry and all:

Here is my joy with them and as I understand---------Since the whole idea
behind the Decell Bypass Valve is to decrease excessive depression upon
decelleration then the trick is to not have the valve float at idle but only
on a hard decelleration all the while maintaining good engine braking. Since
the Decell Bypass valve is being controlled by porting the depression from
behind the throttle plate(intake side) to the backside of the diaghram
within the valve. I chose to deal with setting up the factory preset bypass
valves by using my actual vacuum at idle(18"s) then added quite a few more
inchs of merc to that value,I cannot remember exactly what value I started
with but after a drive with a vacuum gauge I think I decided on about 22"s
or more to set the valve lift off at, I then took that value and applied
that vacuum using a Mity-Vac tool placed on the porting outside of the
assembled valve, each time my spring was too weak so after about the third
disassembly(parting the two halves) and turning the internal nut to increase
the loading of the spring on the diaghram cup, I was able to obtain the
desired lift off of the valve from it's seat.right or wrong that is where I
stopped playing and installed them. After that I was pleased, but being the
tinkerer that I am on my 74 Six I have recently gone to SU's with modified
needles and will not return to ZS's anytime soon, but would love to here any
corrections or more on this subject.

in more carefully rebuilding my cd150 carbs on my 72 gt6 i got to the part
about adjusting the bypass valves, which if incorrect can cause high idle
(my
problem). i've noted on two documents how to adjust them for early and late
carbs. both those documents show a screw you can adjust. my carbs just
have
a cover. no screw ! when i removed the bypass valves from carbs to clean
them it looked like a screw inside, but nothing on the outside, just a
plate.
does this mean it is factory set and cannot be adjusted ? what if it truly
is
not adjusted properly ? has anyone 'popped off' this plate to find a screw
head underneath ?
thanks ! larry lstein6@earthlink.net
