3/8" X 1" steel rod is about 14 grams / 0.5 OZ / 0.000313 Hundredweight (
CWT). The clutch cover stamping and springs are pretty consistant but since
the pressure plate is a casting, this is where the imbalance occurs. If the
levers are cast/forged there will be some variation here as well.
As you said balancing the FW and cover is best to do, makes for a smoother
engine. However don't expect a shop to do this during a clutch change unless
the car owner specifically asks for it.
