In putting the pistons back into my early -4 engine, I noted they were about
.030" above the tops of the liners at TDC. The block evidently had been
decked some time in the past, the head had been milled .093". I'm using the
same crank, pistons, rods & head (std bearings, too upon rebuild) as were in
the engine in the as received condition so I'm supposing it ran this way.
The head gasket I have is .070" thick. Allowing for .020" compression of the
gasket upon installation (wild ass guess), I'm anticipating
.070-.020-.030-.004(liner protrusion above the block) equaling .016". Wow!
Is .016" comfort zone before metal to metal contact acceptable? Please
respond to me directly as well as the list as I'm on the digest mode - would
like to continue working through part of the New Year's holiday.
