Well,, my TR3 engine that hasn't run much since the rebuild, has problems,,
I had the carbs rebuilt, and it ran GREAT (for a while), in the garage. It
does have some LOUD lifter noise and I have set them @ .010, and checked
them many times. I checked them after a short run when it had warmed up just
a bit and they were around .012. Well, now, after warming it up,, if I hit
the throttle,, it boggs, and fires loudly out the tail pipe and out the
carbs. If I let up,, it will come back to a reasonable idle,, lopes a bit.
I used the uni-syc, and had to adjust them very little. Setting the mixture
didn't change alot,, Idles fine, The lift the piston method netted the right
results, All seems well, except for the backfiring under a quick throttle,
I pulled the plugs and,, BLACK,, Really BLACK, I checked the points and
cleaned them, still look new,, put in a new condenser, and put on a new
vacuum advance I had. Still no change. I set the timing at a static 4 deg.
and put the timing light on it which indicated it was running at I'd guess
about 20 degrees, and when I rev it up the advance seems to be working fine,
I have noticed a bit of blue smoke upon hitting the throttle, but then they
are new rings, pistons and sleeves,,
The way it idles It seems the carbs are working properly, and the richness
upon reving it up must be caused by weak ignition? Kinda rambles on here,
but I'm looking for Ideas.
