In gereral terms replacement of the diaphram is required after being
contaminated with brake fliud. However in practice if you allow the servo to
dry out you have a pretty good chance that the servo will operate
satisfactory.

The replacement of the diaphram on a Girlng servo is a specialist job as the
two halves must be split. If you are lucky and have the Lockheed type,
repair kits were available in the 60s. I have seen one of these for sale
recently on eBay.

I would try the drying out procedure first.

A quick test to check servo operation is as follows:

1 Run the engine, apply foot pressure making sure that you have a solid
pedal (No sponginess or creep)
2 Release pedal pressure and stop engine.
3 Pump pedal 5-10 times to evacuate system
4 Apply pedal pressure and hold.
5 Start engine.
Pedal should dip slightly as engine starts. If this happens servo is
working. If no noticable dip in pedal you have a servo problem or an air
leak from the manifold.

This is the standard test carried out by qualified people annually on our
MOT Test (Road worthiness) here in UK.
