I use a Hobart Handler MIG with gas bottle. It runs on 115 VAC/20 amp
Service, and does a pretty good job on up to about 3/16" material.
Make sure you buy a machine that can accommodate the shielding gas option,
as the alternative( flux cored wire) is fairly lame by comparison.
( spatters, less stable arc, etc.) Unit is reliable and works well.
Paid about $550 for the welder and a bit more for the shielding gas tank and
regulator. While I like the convenience of a MIG, I often use my
Oxy-Acetylene
rig to braze ( kind of like very high temp soldering, just with a brass rod)
because you can 'puddle' the brass and fill in spots that an arc welder
would
have trouble with. However, you cannot braze metal that is even slightly
rusty/dirty, the MIG is much more accommodating in that regard.
Re: boxed metal under the car??? What were you expecting?
Chrome moly tubing and titanium castings? be thankful you have real metal!
Rust free is very, very good.....

world)
What mig welders does every one use I have seen quite a few units but they
seem to very limited as far as heat adjustment?
How thick is the frame tubing on a 3a while crawling around under the car I
was looking at the frame though it shows no sign of rust it I would swear it
is only made of boxed sheet metal?
