Bob, sounds to me like a 1973 model-year "Federal" (US spec.) Spitfire 1500. As
for the engine number, I'd have expected either an "FK"(?) or "FM" prefix with
the "UE" suffix. (I'll have to look at the '72 MkIV sitting in my driveway!)
Anyway, the FH/FK would be a 1296 and the FM a 1493. Either way, the "UE"
suffix indicates a US emissions-spec engine.
And yes, it originally would have been equipped with a single 150CDSE
Stromberg. Lucky for you to have the dual SU's!
