I know...they're simple - until you buy spare parts.

I have a pair of SU HS6 that are original to my 66 TR4A.

I purchased new floats and old style float valves from Moss to replace my
original floats and Grose valves/jets. I did this to try to resolve a flooding
problem in one of the float chambers.

Here's the problem:
1.) The new floats are not adjustable like the old ones are. There is no metal
to bend to adjust the height. The unit is all plastic. The only way to adjust
would be to shim the float valve with fiber washers to increase the gap between
top of float and float bowl lid (thereby decreasing fuel level/volume in float
chamber). There is no way to decrease the gap (thereby increasing the fuel
level/volume in the float chamber). With no shims, I can insert a 9mm bar
between the edge of the float farthest from the hinge and the float bowl lid.

Great opportunity for bad ASCII drawing:
                         __
float ---------->     /    \
                       /___ \
hinge and lid _~.i____ <---------- 9 mm at edge with valve installed and no
shims/washers.

2.) None of my manuals (I have Haynes, Glenn's, Autopress and Chilton's) give
settings for float adjustments specific to the SU HS6. The specifics are for SU
H4's, Spitfire SUs and Strombergs. The SU H4 float chamber is a different animal
from the HS6 float chamber. It appears that the existing adjustment for my float
chambers was the 1/8" given for the HS4 and that may be the source of my
flooding.

Questions:

Does anyone know the correct procedure specific to measuring float adjustment on
the SU HS6? Where to measure the gap? Gap measurement?

Is anybody successfully using these non-adjustable replacement floats?

Thanks,
Mark A. Evans
