Another thing to check (if you run out of ideas) are the manifold
gaskets.
I had blown out my exhaust manifold gasket on the TR4 and it was causing
no end of trouble, because it blows out the intake manifold gasket too
(same gasket!) -> leading to vacuum leakage.
My symptoms were a clattery engine and very uneven idle. New gaskets
made the car run more like a sports car and less like a small airplane.
