Randy: If you have to remove the plate from the sheet metal some states will require a new identity plate be issued by the state for the previously titled vehicle as a "salvage" title. This is always required here (Maine) if a salvaged vehicle is rebuilt from parts. However, vehicles over twenty years old may be retitled in the present owner with photos and suitable affidavits of ownership without reference to the original source of the vehicle or identity plate.
