Hi Brian,
Something in the back of my brain tells me that the later 140 series Volvos had
a viscous fan that would fit; maybe a long time ago this was addressed on the
list.
I can't guarantee the fit part, but I did own a Volvo with a yellow bladed fan
with a viscous coupling. Actually it could have been on a P1800S but, same
engine.
As far as reducing rotating mass - this has me wondering: why wouldn't the 30
lbs of flywheel on the other end swamp any difficulties with fan imbalance? Or
is the problem then that there's some twisting of the crank trying to happen as
the flywheel acts as an anchor and the fan tries to go wild?
Regards,
Jim

..............Anything that will reduce the mass that rotates on the end of the
crank is better. My ultimate goal is to find a compatible plastic fan from
another car that has the viscous clutch in the center and can be made to
mate with the TR hub. The viscous or liquid clutch only runs the
fan up to a low fixed RPM and then "slips". This will further
reduce the harmonic vibration we get on the TR engines with the
direct connected fans.
