Yes, it is. Generally that number plate stays with the car for life. From
about 1963 on, when they started adding a suffix letter (later a prefix
letter, I think), that letter indicated the year of registration. Also, if
you have access to the information, the other letters (2nd and 3rd letters)
will tell you the origin of the registration. For example, registrations with
HP, DU, or KV (there might be others) come from the Coventry area.
