Two schools of thought Frank. I did a re-ring on a TR3 many years ago and
replaced nothing but the rings and the head gasket. It was still running
when I sold it three months later.......
On the other hand I've seen more than one engine with new rings and inserts
(bearings) blow cam bearings and such with the new improved power, so it may
be false ecomomy to not replace everything you can now.
Depends on the expense too. I would assume that you are going to spend
$1000-1500.00 on everything now with rebuilding the crank journals and labor
to R&R everything.
TRF has complete engines now for $2700, and I'd guess that another $500
should get it installed....so, what's another two grand? Not much if it's
your money, a lot if it is mine...
