Hi all:
My '73 GT6 has about an inch of play in the steering wheel, traceable to
the worn (probably original) bushings in the bolts at end of the
steering column, inside the engine bay. (These are the roughly 1/4 inch
bushings that the bolts go through that secure the inner steering column
to the box.) I suspect these worn bushings are at least partly
responsible for the wobble I get in the steering wheel at speeds above
60 mph.
The GT6 steering system is the same setup as that of the Spitfire,
right?
What's the easiest way to replace these bushings? How long does it take
to do this job? If I read my manual correctly, the only way to do it is
to withdraw the steering column from inside the car?
