I recently bought a Facet solid state electric fuel pump from the current
J.C. Whitney catalog, for $36.99. Imagine my surprise when I got the brand
new Moss catalog, and saw the very same pump on Page 3 for $79.95. That's
more than double Whitney's price. Now, I can see a small increase because
Moss is a smaller company and does not have J. C. Whitney's buying power.
But more than double?
I may get flamed here for not blindly supporting our suppliers. We've had
threads like this before. Well, about 85% of the parts I buy come from the
"big three." The other 15% comes from other catalogs and local stores. I
am NOT going to blindly support our best companies regardless of price.
Suggestion: If you want to buy this pump from Moss, tell them about Whitney
and maybe they'll match the price.
I can't remember how long I've bought from Whitney, probably since I was a
kid (about 100 years ago). They've had their ups and downs, and I think
they were in a Chapter 11 bankruptcy a few years ago. But, they have a neat
website (www.jcwhitney.com) and a good catalog, and very competitive prices
as you can see. "No financial interest, etc. etc. etc."
