Does anyone have experience of re-registering a car in the UK, after
it has been written off and repaired?
I had a nasty shock this morning when I received a letter from my
insurance company telling me that my accident damaged TR6 would have
to be written off at the DVLA then re-registered after being repaired
by me. Re-registration will risk getting a Q registration instead of
the 1975 plate the vehicle has at present. This will reduce the value
so much that I'm really not sure about completing the repairs.
From the DVLA web site it seems that a car with new chassis and body
shells require proof of originality in the form of receipts from a
dealer or manufacturer. Naturally Triumph or BL are no longer around
to provide these, so remanufactured Chassis/bodyshells may result in
a Q plate. Nobody at the local registration office is prepared to
commit themselves to a decision without seeing the completed car,
which makes the prospect of a rebuild difficult for me. I assume that
anyone rebuilding a worn out TR doesn't need to re-register it, so
this situation probably doesn't arise too often. Anyone out there
have any experience on this? Any help much appreciated...
