LisTR's:
I am in the process of installing GM alternator (standard model from '86
Pontiac Fiero, 7 year warranty from Trak Auto, the same as on our two
Fiero's.
On theTR-4, the original bracket is 4 1/4", the alternator base is 2", BUT
THE IMPORTANT DIMENSION IS THAT THE CENTER OF THE PULLY ON THE ALTERNATOR IS
EXACTLY IN THE SMAE PLANE AS THE ORIGINAL TR4 GENERATOR> I bought a 7" Bolt
to provide longitudinal support and all is an easy pefect swap/

As I posted earlier, and as Dan Masters confirmed,on the TR4 large wire
BROWN/Yellow, goes to the GM screw terminal, the Thin Br/Gr goes to the the
#1 GM post (thin white lead if you buy the connector plug), and eventually
to the ignition warning light on the dash side). The GM aftermarket Plug Red
wire goes to the post, OR you can run a new (Brown) lead frrom the solenoid
connection to the #2 (Red lead on the GM gen) to continue to use the
ammeter.
I am adding three vintage road lamps, which I will directly feed off the
Alternator Screw Terminal, via relays and fuses for each lamp, using the
orginal headlamp dimmer switch as a switch for the relay, so as not to run
all the current through the ammeter!
