It'll normally move some in both directions, negative is discharge and
positive is charge. Starting the car or leaving the headlamps on after
shutting off will show serious discharge. Starting and running after a
discharge ought to show a charge. If you have the stock alternator, running
the engine with the headlights on, the heater fan on high, the wipers going
and everything else going will show a discharge.
Normal running with nothing much turned on ought to show in the middle. My
"middle" is very slightly off center, but that also were it is with the car
and everything in it off.

Subject: ammeter question
Hi everyone
I hope this isnt a stupid question but when everything is working properly
which way should the ammeter move?
Towards the - or the +
I seems like a no brainer but just double checking.
