Thanks for the answers regarding the lift-the-piston mixture test. John Graves pointed out that the popular figures of 1/32 of an inch to 1/8 of an inch appear in print in the Triumph Workshop Manual and Clymer's manual. It does bother me that the Bentley manual could be that far off... we're talking about 7/32 of an inch difference... but the testimonials here on the list and other input I've gotten from other TR motorheads in person convinces me that it is indeed wrong.
