I had the same problem on my '76 servo and as I was rebuilding the master
cylinder, I just couldn't put it back on that ratty looking servo. Mine had
a lot of pits in it so I used spot putty and primer to get it back to
smooth. Shot it with gloss black enamel and I must say it looks pretty
good.  This was my second attempt at painting on my car. I had painted the
windscreen frame the semi-flat black a few years ago.
The servo did not appear to have had been primered at the factory, but I'm
sure their painting techniques are better than mine. I was extremely careful
about taping the mounting studs and holes closed so that no dust got inside.

My next major project is to redo the entire area around the battery box
which is also rather ratty looking from battery corrosion.
