Triumphisti,
Thanks to everyone who sent me info concerning the proper
installation of the TR6/250 driveshaft. Mine is now installed with the
sliding splines toward the transmission end, which was the concensus, if
not unanimous, opinion. GT6 owners please note, this would definitely be
"incorrect" for your car, though at least 1 GT6 owner reported running his
that way with satisfactory results. I'll test it just as soon as I get my
owner-vandalized exhaust back together.
To Washington DC area listers: I had the shaft balanced at Drive
Line Services in Lorton, VA, (near Springfield). I brought it there with
new u-joints installed, and they cleaned the splines, straightened the
shaft to correct runout, painted it, and balanced it on their driveshaft
balancing machine for $50. Three weights were welded to the skin, and they
indicated the shaft was way out of balance with high runout, though it
looked quite nice. If you need the u-joints done, they have Spicer units
there. Their number is (540) 370-1775. Rabid concours fanatics note, they
used gray paint instead of the correct shade if semi-gloss Olde
Singeon-Smythe-Upon-the-Moor Shooting Brake Black. That'll cost me big
points. Note: When the guy with the heavy southern accent seems to be
calling you "boy", he is actually saying "bud" and trying to be friendly. I
did nothing to further the good name of Yankee cordiality when I confronted
him (I wonder why the car is shaking so much?)
I'll be out of town for a while, so if I didn't thank you
personally it's because I didn't get your post in time. You're all a swell
bunch of Joes.
Best Regards,
Tom Marincic
