Hi folks,
It's been a while since I've written to the list, too busy at work to work on
the car.
Well, this morning I finally got around to removing the sump and there *they*
were --
the thrust washers. I pulled the 4th main bearing cap and found significant
ware on
the cap, block, and crank. I'll be happy to send a photo (in any format you
desire) to
those interested.
I'm now entertaining two thoughts:
1) find another engine/block, and/or;
2) having this block and crank repaired.
Anyone got an engine without said damage they are interested in selling? My
car is
a 76, though I'll take any year.
Following the lines of thought to repair the block, I visited a local machine
shop and
the guy said he could find the "right" folks to weld up the block and crank,
then machine
them down again. Anyone with any thoughts on this? Anyone know a reliable
shop in
the Houston area?
All comments, cautions, or criticisms welcome.
Thanks,
Mike Morelli
