That front suspension design was first introduced by MG on the MG YA
saloon in 1947.  It was used, with minor refinements, on most MG models
right up to the end (TD, TF, MGA, MGB).  It's a pretty good design, so
why change it?  Its main weakness is that the lever shock arms double as
the upper A-arms, so the shock arm pivots take a lot of abuse.  When they
werar out, repair is expensive.  Luckily those shocks are pretty sturdy
items.
