David:

When Linda and I were at Triumphest a couple of weeks ago, we drove Route
66 from Oatman AZ to Kingman (in a Toyota Corolla!). Do the mountain
switchbacks get any better than this?

As you said, it's hard to believe this was once a main east/west road. We
drove back to Laughlin from Kingman on a "modern" road - 75mph in a
straight line to the mountain, 65mph up the mountain in sweeping curves and
75mph down the other side again in sweeping curves to Boulder City. This
drive was not quite the same - faster though! There was an interesting
"escape" route on the way down for runaway trucks - about a 1/2 mile of
flat road ending in a large pile of rock - would be an interesting "stop"!

Cheers,

Brian
