More often than not, I find myself pissing and moaning about the quality
of new parts, but this time, I have to say, I think there may actually
be a deal left in the US. (!)
I sent one of the better of the spare rocker and rocker shaft sets I had
sitting around to Rocker Arm Specialists (Anderson, CA), and have to say
that if the end result is as quiet as it looks, it's impressive for the
price. The standard job seems to be beadblast everything, clean the
rocker shaft, grind shallow oil reliefs in the shaft, then hard-chrome
that piece, bore the rockers for bronze bushes, ream to fit, re-radius
the rocker noses, and assemble. Everything looks and feels as if it's a
first-rate job, and the best part? $89 + shipping. I priced new rockers
and shaft, and the cost is upwards of $300, and I would guess, from the
materials used, that the wear on this item will be less than on original
parts.
Unfortunately, couldn't get it on today--too busy doing the clutch job
necessitated by a bad throwout bearing which appeared only three days
after a re-ring job last month. (yes, being tested by the beast <g>).
It's got to be quieter than the rocker arms and shaft on there now (from
a parts car with 60K), but I'll supply the subjective results later this
week.
Looks to be one of the great deals left, though.
