Subject: TR6 - clutch sticky
Hello all -
I have a 71 TR6 on which I am about to undertake a gearbox swap and
clutch change. I've never done it before so any miscellaneous handy hints
would be well appreciated.
My specific question -
When warmed up, the clutch engagement (take-up) is sticky. At
idle, it is impossible to gently the clutch pedal up - it will come
up all of a sudden. This is quite easily lived with by 'goosing' the
throttle just a little - it breaks this sticking (friction?) force. I
would of course like to take the opportunity to remedy this though.
Another key point (maybe)- when I turn the motor off, even when well
warmed up, the clutch can be pushed in and out very smoothly.
I've heard people say this is usually the release bearing sleeve sticking on
the front cover ('shaft') of the gearbox. If so - how many parts should I
renew, or can I clean the surfaces up and grease them.
The fact that it comes up smoothly when it's turned off though makes me
just wonder if it's that. Could it be something like the pressure plate
and driven plate 'sticking' to each other when warm??? Or any other
possible reason?
I'm quite prepared to renew whatever I need to - I would like to take
advantage of others' experiences and advice to make sure I get it though.
Thanks in advance very much for all input!
Pete
