I did just that in a Honda motorcycle, several (7) years ago. I bled the
systems three times before the little DOT 3/4 droplets stopped comming out
of the fluid. The following spring the rear caliper was frozen. The heat
from the few miles I rode before realizing the caliper was frozen, "popped"
the caliper, freeing it up and I rebled the systems once more.
Clean and flush your system first, if you choose not to rebuild everything,
for the change over to DOT 5. My personal opinion is to use DOT 4 until you
do a major system rebuild, then convert to DOT 5 if that is your passion. I
have elected to run DOT 4 in all of my vehicles, although the new
non-synthetic DOT 5.1 does look interesting.
