My Trans has this problem... is was HORRIBLE when I first restored my
car a couple years ago...
I pulled the trans... pulled the top off... cleaned it out with WD-40...
(spraying everything until the WD-40 dripped out clean) ...replaced the
gasket... and closed up the unit... topped up with fresh oil...
replaced the trans-mount... and replaced the little anti-rattle
spring/cup from the bottom of the shifter... (my main goal was to clean
it up and get rid of all possible vibrations)
I also replaced the driveshaft u-joints and had the unit balanced.
Subsequently... I RARELY have this problem... I just drove up the
Angeles CRest mountains here in Southern Cal... I really drove hard...
up a winding mountain road for about 1 1/2 hours... and back... I never
had the 2nd gear pop out...
It only occasionally does it when the engine is cold.
Since I did ALL these things... I don't know if any ONE was the real
"cure"... but thought I'd share it with you.
