This may be obvious, and you may have gotten other replies about your 
diff, but - 

If you are blowing oil from you diff case, make sure that the little vent 
thingie on top is free and easily movable. If it is not, the pressure 
inside the case can get high and _any seal_ will blow oil.

Been there, done that.

As for trying to cange the gasket in for the rear cover in the car, I 
wouldn't think it is worth the effort. You need to swing the diff down at 
an angle to get the cover open enough to insert the gasket, and it's 
pretty tight quarters in there.

Yank the diff if you're going to change the seal for the rear cover.
