Brian Smith lamented about the low cost of a 2000 sedan in the UK. Brian
et al, about 18 mos ago a fellow contacted our club to see if we could help
find a buyer for a car he had. It was a '66 2000 saloon (sedan) in very
original condition with only a leaking water pump. He had advertised it
for months with no luckfor as little a $700. This fellow maintained a large
collection of cars that he rented to the movies but he had no room for this
car. He told us if it wasn't sold soon it would have to go to the shredder.
A good home was found for it finally. Deals like this are out there if you
look, you may have to do some digging. Remember, prices for TR sports cars
on this side of the pond are generally 30% cheaper than the UK, hence the
reason the Euros buy our cars and ship them over there.
However, having said that, here are some of the things the Brits have of
which I am (somewhat) envious,
The Goodwood Festival of Speed, Coys Historic at Silverstone, The Classic
& Sportscar Show, The Norwich Union Run, Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Cadwell
Park, Donnington, Thruxton, The Isle of Man TT, Goodwood, Prescott Hillclimb,
the BTCC, real F1 at real race tracks, the Lakes District, the Yorkshire
Dales, castles (ruined or not), the RAF museum, Beaulieu Autojumble, the
seemingly endless number of cottage specialists who can repair/manufacture
anything for old Brit cars, Moss Europe, Revington TR, Racetorations, John
Kipping, Rimmer Bros, TR Bitz, the TSSC, and "B" roads.
I am, however, not envious of the weather or the tax structure.
Cheers,
