I need a Lucas relay - and not for any of our British cars. It's for
the Ferrari, which for some reason, has a Lucas wiper motor (just like
the one in my 4A) and Lucas electrics driving the cooling fans. It's
the relay in that circuit that is acting up - we opened the can and the
points had grown stalactities. There wasn't enough metal left on one
side to file them flat!
So why am I asking you folks? Well, it's a Lucas 6RA relay - the
rectangular can with two mounting ears. It's the spitting image of the
horn relay on my TR4A and GT6+, even though the numbers on the can
don't match. The Ferrari relay is marked "33232D" and the 4A relay is
marked "33188" (Stanpart 137747/1).
I don't have Lucas references to tell me what the difference between
these relays is; the contact layout is exactly the same - a single
winding contact (W1), and two load contacts (C1 and C2). C2 supplies
current to both the winding and the load; C1 has a double spade
connector. As far as I an tell, this relay was used on the 4A, the
whole GT6 range, and some Spits (and maybe Heralds).
All the usual suspects have superceded both these numbers to a
different Lucas part, which is a 28RA relay - the later round can
style. I'd really rather find the right part.
So now I'm looking for a takeoff. If you have a parts car (or just a pile
of Lucas parts) with a spare, I'd like to buy it from you...
