FWIW: Here is a simple fix.

After redoing the seats on my 74.5 TR6 I noted that the same thing,
namely that there still were two more positions on the seat rail,  and
that the seat stopped sliding back due to the tilting handle's hitting
the trim in front of the B-post. 

I also noted that the seat had a considerable tow-in, i.e. the catch
hooks were  meeting the catch-plates on the outer edge. In addition, the
seat felt pointing to the right. What I did to straighten out the seat
was this:

There are two holes to choose from when attaching the seat to the rail.
On the door side, I used the front hole, while on the inner side the
back hole was used. This setup straightened out the seat, the catch
hooks are centered on the plates, and the seat can now be pushed all the
way back on the seat rail without the handle hitting anything.
