I have an 80 with the same problem that was driving me nuts for the better part
of
two months. With some sage advice, I got mine 90% right in a matter of a few
minutes.
Disconnect the vacuum retard from the ignition and plug pipe.
Back out the bypass/antibackfire valve to seat it.
Screw the idle mixture screw all the way down.
Set the main needle flush with the bottom of the piston.
(at this point, my car was *much* happier then it had been for months)
Adjust main needle until car runs right, ignoring idle.
Adjust idle mixture screw to get idle right now.
